Weekend, 3 and 5 Day Basic and Advanced Timber Frame Building Courses

Courses are led by Alan Ritchie, one of the country's top craftsmen. With over 25 years experience in working with wood, he will take you from the selection of the timber in its natural state, through building design and the secret of how to mark out an entire frame, to its shaping and raising.

Hewnwood is located on the edge of the Brecon Beacons national park, surrounded by wonderful countryside and only 10 mins from Hay-on-Wye. The area offers a wealth of outdoor pursuits and family activities, should you wish to bring company or want to extend your stay.

The courses are held on a beautiful 12-acre woodland site with private clearings, woodland streams and stunning views. All meals are provided for the duration of the course and cooked by Alan's partner Mary, an experienced professional cook.

Camping facilities are provided here in the wood, or if you prefer, we can recommend good local B&B's. Participants are warmly invited to bring any musical instruments, songs or stories for round the campfire in the evenings.

We are only 10 mins from the A40 (see directions here), and there are good local and national bus network links. The closest railway station is Abergavenny. Brecon Tourist Information Centre: (01874 622 485).

Bring some good sturdy waterproof boots. If you are camping in the woods then a thick roll matt or blow up matress and torch. All tools are provided but you are welcome to bring any of your own.
